Lead Baker
Average 40 hours a week
You may think a lead baker position requires years of experience and training, but sometimes an individuals personal qualities are more important than where you’ve worked before. We don’t mind if you’ve never baked professionally before, because neither had we when we started Two Islands. Here’s the details of what we’re after:
What we can teach you:
- How to stack and ice cakes
- How to work in a kitchen, as a team, supporting your crew
- Hygiene/allergy control
What we cannot teach you, but is required for the role above all else:

- Work well as a team
- Enjoy learning/being taught
- Some artistic flair - you don’t need to come up with the recipes but you do need to execute the vision!
- Precision and accuracy - needed when decorating cakes.
- Willing to get your hands dirty - washing up is just a part of kitchen life
- Some flexibility - some days are so busy, and some days are not
- Work with speed and efficiency.
- Understand the importance of allergy/ hygiene control, and implement our standard of keeping them.
What the role looks like:
- Average of 40 hours a week, peaks and troughs a little depending on the week. Days off are either a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
- Opening shift: no earlier than 6am, closing shift: no later than 5pm
- 4 week break in January
- Baking cakes, stacking and decorating, prepping curds/jams, keeping on top of tidy kitchen, closing.
- FOH needs the occasional helping hand - individual must not mind helping their team out every now and again.
- Annual Salary based on experience and competence.

Full time barista
Average 40 hours a week
Budding barista or seasoned espresso slinger - join our tight crew, known for having a ball whilst on the espresso bar. Pursue SCA qualification to set you up to help run our coffee events or travel the world with an internationally recognised qualification.
What we can teach you:
- Basic to advanced barista skills (Dialling in espresso recipes, latte art skills & machine maintenance)
- Working in a team during high volume coffee service
- In depth coffee knowledge

What we cannot teach you, but is required for the role above all else:
- The ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly
- Enjoy learning/being taught
- Take an interest in beverages
- Ability to work with speed and precision
- Happy to get your hands dirty - its not all pouring pretty latte art, we all muck-in and scrub the bins too
- Take pride in delivering outstanding customer service

What the role looks like:
- Average 40 hours per week (full time) working weekends with set days off
- No start earlier than 8am and finishing no later than 5pm
- 4 week break in January
